Presentation of the model strategy in Brussels

Whithin the project period 2005 and 2007 papers and showcases have been prepared by partners of SufalNet and have been discussed during seminars and sitevisits. It has resulted in a Model Strategy covering all stages of redeveloping landfills. This Model Strategy was presented at the closing conference of SufalNet in November 2007 at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels. Experts, policymakers, politicians of the local and regional authorities cooperating in SufalNet and stakeholders concluded that SufalNet has positively contributed to the general knowledge of present and future use of former landfills in the European Union.

At the closing conference it was also concluded that the good practices identified in the Model Strategy should be applied in regional and local policies because of the environmental, social and economical benefits that can be achieved by re-using former landfills. The Province of Noord-Brabant is willing to be leading applicant again for a follow-up project. The name of this new project will be SufalNet for you ‘4eu'.
