Sufalnet

For three years 21 partners in 12 countries exchanged knowledge and discussed the best strategies to deal with closed landfills. To realize this, they started the project Sufalnet and received financial support from the European Union (Interreg IIIC). The overall objective of SUFALNET is to reduce environmental risks and to stimulate re-use of closed landfills through exchange and dissimination of policies, projects and instruments. This website shows the endresult of Sufalnet.

How to use this website

On this website you can learn about the end result of Sufalnet. Sufalnet delivered two different kind of results. First, the partners exchanged information about landfills in their own country, region or council. You can find this wide variety of experiences under 'landfill overview'. Second, the main partners modelled the most successful strategies in the front-running countries and reported their models under three headers: examination, aftercare and redevelopment. The lead partner connected the models with a general introduction (see 'model strategy'). Messages from Sufalnet can be found under 'European level'. Read the results on the webpages and download the more elaborate papers on the right side of the webpages.

Reuse

Sustainable reuse of landfills is based on three domains, each with its own experts, legal authorities and traditions. This end report shows you that an integrated approach is essential for success. An integrated approach asks for people that are willing to listen to other people with different backgrounds, languages and expertise. Sufalnet shows you how this attitude can work.

To be continued

SufalNet's partners want to continue SufalNet and the province of Noord Brabant is now preparing the next Interreg-project SufalNet4EU. The aim of SufalNet4EU will be the formulation of regional or local action plans and the actual realization of these plans with EU-funds. To do so local politicians, communities and stakeholders will be involved and the Model Strategy will be used. Interested in participation? contact us!
